TIEC Welcomes New President and CEO

Returning home to Texas after years of foreign service experience, Deneyse A. Kirkpatrick is uniquely poised to build global partnerships on behalf of Texas higher education.

After a nationwide search that began last August, the Texas International Education Consortium board of directors is proud to welcome our new president and CEO, Deneyse A. Kirkpatrick. The move to Texas will be a homecoming for Deneyse after two decades of U.S. diplomatic experience in Latin America, the Middle East, and Africa. Raised in Prairie View and the daughter of educators and university graduates of the Texas education system themselves, she brings a unique perspective and hands-on expertise that will help TIEC create pathways for global educational opportunities for Texas higher education.

She most recently served as the highest ranking U.S. government official to Guinea Bissau. Prior to that role, Deneyse was the Senior Advisor for the U.S. Advisory Commission on Public Diplomacy at the U.S. Department of State and led several initiatives advising U.S. institutions and foreign entities on international higher education. She is the recipient of the Civilian Army Achievement Award and the Public Diplomacy Association of America Award. Deneyse is a member of the Board of Visitors at Howard University, The New Philadelphia Association, and a contributor to Meridian International Center. She holds a M.A. in Latin American Studies from Georgetown University, a B.A. from Howard University in Communication, and certificates from The University of Southern California in public diplomacy and the Harvard Business School Executive Leadership Program.

“Deneyse Kirkpatrick brings a profound understanding of the global education landscape to TIEC. She has in-depth experience and connections in key regions where we hope to build stronger ties for our Texas higher education institutions,” said Dr. Richard Benson, chair of the TIEC board of directors and president of The University of Texas at Dallas. “She will also lend an understanding of both the theory and the practice of public diplomacy and the vital role that international education plays in it. We are thrilled to see her knowledge enhance TIEC’s work.”

She will officially assume her role at the beginning of March, joining TIEC’s 40th anniversary celebration kickoff next week in Houston. We hope our members and partners in international education will join us in welcoming her!
