The Communications Intern reports directly to the TIEC Director of Global Education and Impact and works closely with the TIEC Executive Assistant, who is responsible for managing TIEC’s website and social media presence.

The Communications Intern reports directly to the TIEC Director of Global Education and Impact and works closely with the TIEC Executive Assistant, who is responsible for managing TIEC’s website and social media presence. The Communications Intern will provide administrative, research, process, and content support for TIEC’s external communications. This includes assisting with the revamp of TIEC’s website, creating social media posts, developing outreach materials, and drafting, producing, and editing blogs, proposals, and marketing and outreach efforts, as well as ongoing projects.

Tasks/Roles:
• Conduct research to support the development of outreach materials and communications strategies
• Assist with the revamp of TIEC’s website, including reviewing and editing content, and making updates as needed
• Create social media content and posts for TIEC’s social media channels (e.g. Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn)
• Draft, produce, and edit blog posts, proposals, and other marketing and outreach materials
• Support ongoing projects related to TIEC’s external communications, such as conducting surveys or preparing reports
• Present data and data-informed recommendations to senior leadership
• Coordinate with other members of the TIEC team to ensure that external communications are aligned with the organization’s goals and values
• Provide administrative support as needed, such as scheduling meetings or managing email communications

Specific projects the intern will assist with:
• Reporting and analytics for website and social media
• Increasing TIEC’s presence and content across social media
• Conduct TIEC consortium-member research
• Survey TIEC members re: our services
• Website updates and enhancements
• Organization of TIEC marketing, outreach, and communications drives and folders
• Improvement of internal management of marketing and communications collateral
• Assist and identify new outreach opportunities for TIEC
• Submission of TIEC’s compelling and competitive responses to RFPs and NOFOs

What experiences make you a good fit for this position:
• You have taken courses in the following subject areas: technical/creative writing, business writing, international relations, political science, area studies, public affairs, government, communications, and/or marketing (required);
• You have experience with social media content creation and management (required);
• You have experience conducting research and synthesizing ideas into a deliverable such as a memo, report, paper, or presentation (required);
• You have experience writing blogs, articles, or other products for external audiences (required);
• You have successfully contributed to a team responsible for marketing and/or promotion (preferred); and
• You have experience organizing events including creating invite lists, creating promotional materials, selecting speakers, creating a run-of-show, running Zoom, etc. (preferred)

• You learn quickly and work effectively with Microsoft Office (i.e. Word, Excel, Outlook), Google suite apps (i.e. Docs, Sheets, Slides), and Airtable.

Work Schedule:
Semester Interns
• TIEC asks for a commitment of 12 hours/week for 12 weeks
• TIEC is a certified work site for UT Austin work-study
• Non-work-study interns who receive course credit receive a stipend of $750 for successfully completing their full internship, a certificate of completion and a letter of recommendation
• Non-work-study interns who do not receive course credit receive a stipend of $1,250 for successfully completing their full internship, a certificate of completion and a letter of recommendation

Summer Interns
• TIEC asks for a commitment of 24-32 hours a week for eight weeks
• For those receiving course credit, TIEC will offer a stipend of $1,500-$2,000, depending on the schedule completed, and a certificate of completion as well as a letter of recommendation
• For those not receiving course credit, TIEC will offer a stipend of $2,000-$2,600, depending on the schedule completed, and a certificate of completion as well as a letter of recommendation
