This three-week Faculty Development Program (FDP) included the two-week English Language Teaching (ELT) Institute and a one-week Public School Site Residency for school shadowing. The goals of the program were to improve techniques and professional skills for both teachers and administrators, and to create space for collaboration and co-creation. Participants effectively implemented US pedagogical theory and instructional materials at their home institution. They also demonstrated an increase in knowledge of professional teaching practice as measured by assessment of teacher.
100% of teachers reported using new strategies and skills from the program in class instruction, including integration of ELT Methods/Approaches and Techniques and using American English topics as a medium of instruction. 90% of administrators reported training educators in the use of strategies and skills from the program including integration of ELT Methods/Approaches and Techniques and using American English topics as a medium of instruction.
Participants and TIEC staff collaborated on the creation of action plans for each educator that incorporated the program’s instructional content and responded to the needs of the educators’ home institutions. Before the end of the training, all of participants uploaded action plans and received feedback and suggestions, meeting the outcome. They maintained a vibrant digital support network primarily via WhatsApp.
