This module provides healthcare professionals with an understanding of how AI applications and strategies are being deployed across the core functions of healthcare. It will equip current and future healthcare leaders with the insights needed to critically evaluate opportunities, develop strategies, and lead AI projects. You’ll explore how AI strategies have already been successfully deployed within the sector and learn to ask the right questions when evaluating an AI technique for potential use within your own context. Topics will include an overview of the technology before delving into its practical adoption challenges, with regards to both hospital processes and resource management. Topics will range from types of AI technology, its applications, limitations, and industry opportunities. Techniques like natural language processing, data analytics, and machine learning will be investigated across contexts such as disease diagnosis and hospital management.
This module is intended to give students a chance to reflect on the ethical, social, and cultural impact of AI and its integration into the hospital industry. It focuses on the issues faced by and brought about by professionals in AI but also by citizens, institutions and societies. Topics will include the interaction between governance, organizations and sovereign states, the algorithmic of automated decision making, machine learning and explanation, the search for balance between regulation and innovation, and the effects of AI on the dissemination of information, along with questions related to individual rights, discrimination, and architectures of control.
This module is designed to teach students how to maintain private, safe, and quality patient care in the healthcare sector despite diagnosing, monitoring, and check-ins taking place remotely. It will describe common benefits and limitations of telehealth in primary care settings, especially considering the “social distancing” changes posed by the COVID pandemic in comparison to times with no pandemic. It will examine how telehealth may specifically affect quality and safety disparities and outcomes related to healthcare services and find solutions that can be used to overcome these disparities. Topics will include similarities and differences between asynchronous and synchronous delivery of telemedicine, the advantages and disadvantages of each, a summarization of the steps required for an effective patient encounter using telemedicine, strategies for enhancing patient management remotely, including easing anxiety and breaking through any lack of transparency. Additionally, documentation of telehealth encounters and defining roles and responsibilities of interdisciplinary non-physician team members (Medical Office Assistants, CMAs, and RNs).
This module will teach how to effectively emphasize and promote innovation in a manner that benefits both the prosperity of patient care and the development of AI. It will educate on the foundations of applied artificial intelligence within the healthcare sector and guide students towards informed intuition for decision making and inventions that can lead to a prosperous future. Topics will include the improvement of patient care, enhancing quality of life, better discoveries in research, and new solutions to diseases.
