Ira K. Blake, Executive Committee
Dr. Ira K. Blake became University of Houston-Clear Lake’s fifth president in August 2017 following a nationwide search. She joined UH-Clear Lake after serving as provost and senior vice president for academic affairs since 2009 at Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania, one of 14 regional institutions in Pennsylvania’s State System of Higher Education.
Dr. Blake received a bachelor’s degree in psychology from George Washington University, a master’s degree in educational psychology from San Francisco State University, as well as a master’s degree and doctorate in developmental psychology from Columbia University. She has spoken and published on topics of language, literacy, ethnicity, culture, socialization and childhood development.
Dr. Blake has established a reputation as a leader through her many accomplishments. At UHCL, she has begun the development of the university’s next strategic plan that includes full representation of campus membership, alumni and community partners, as well as created a committee to revitalize and update the university’s mission and vision statements.
New to Texas and with less than a month in her new role as president, Dr. Blake successfully led the university through Hurricane Harvey and into the fall 2017 semester overseeing the development of the Hawk Emergency Fund as well as a Dean of Students Food Pantry, which assisted many displaced students.
