INFORMATION REQUIRED TO SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT

If you are unsure whether you are exempt from taking this exam, check with your department or the UT International Office - ESL Services office before making your appointment.

To make your International Teaching Assistant assessment appointment, you must have departmental approval to take the assessment and your department must have submitted your information to the UT ITA database in advance. If in doubt, contact your department.

Note: Typing RETURN or ENTER within a field will submit your form!

  1. Your Name (last, first):
Please put a comma (,) between your last and first name.
       Last name = family/surname
       First name = given name

  2. Your EID:
Enter this as upper case, with no spaces. Your EID will be used to verify that you have departmental approval to take the assessment. If we cannot locate your record in the UT ITA database by your EID, we cannot schedule your appointment.

  3. Your Date of Birth (mm/dd/yyyy): / /
Month/Day/Year, formatted as numbers (example: 12/31/1985)

  4. Your e-mail address:
Your correct e-mail address is needed to send your appointment confirmation and if necessary, inform you of any scheduling adjustments.
MAKE SURE THIS ADDRESS IS CORRECT: If we can't contact you to confirm your appointment, we will not schedule your appointment.

  5. Your daytime phone number in Austin (optional, if available):
We may use this to convey critical or time-sensitive information. If we can't contact you by e-mail, we will try to contact you by phone.

  6. Your Major:
In conjunction with departmental information received from the UT ITA database, this may be used to refine our selection of your test materials.

  7. Have you taken this test before? YES    NO
Answer "YES" if you have taken the TIEP-administered assessment before.
    • If yes, when did you last take the assessment? (Month and year):

      • If this is your first assessment, you do not need to provide this number.
      • If this is not your first assessment and your previous assessment was taken before 2004, you should provide this number in addition to your EID. This is the 9-digit ID number that your department originally submitted to the UT ITA database. This may be your original UT ID number which is formatted like a Social Security Number, and often begins with either 997 or 995.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Do you schedule appointments over the phone?
No. We prefer e-mail because it reduces transcription errors of vital information, such as e-mail addresses and ID numbers. It also creates a record of communications, and allows us to process registrations at times that are compatible with other duties. E-mail messages are also checked far more frequently and regularly than voice-mail messages.

I have not received an e-mail message confirming my appointment. How long should I wait and what should I do?
You should receive a copy of your appointment request shortly after submitting it. This verifies (to you) that the e-mail address you have provided is correct. We send the confirmation e-mail to that address. If you do not receive a copy of your appointment request and a confirmation e-mail within 48 hours of requesting an appointment (not including weekends or during special holiday periods), resubmit your request or call (see "Contact Information" below). If you resubmit your request, make absolutely sure that your e-mail address is correct. If we cannot contact you by e-mail to confirm your appointment, your appointment will be cancelled.

I have a very busy schedule. Can I request a specific time for an appointment?
We will try to accommodate your request for a specific time, but it's not always possible. A limited number of Raters (faculty members who assess your performance) are scheduled for each AM/PM block of time, which determines how many tests we can administer per day.
Generally speaking, as the testing period draws nearer, we have less freedom to accommodate your request. This is particularly true once the testing period has begun.
If you request a specific time and that time is not available, we will send you an e-mail message telling you that your appointment was not scheduled.
If you do not request a specific time, we will schedule your assessment within the AM/PM period block you requested (if available), and will send you an e-mail appointment confirmation.

I cannot take the assessment at any of the times you offer. What should I do?
Bookmark this URL and check this site frequently for updates. Previously unavailable dates and times may later become available due to cancellations and appointment changes. If an acceptable date/time becomes available, submit all the required information as soon as possible. (Bear in mind that since appointment requests are processed on a first-come, first-served basis and availability information may be slightly out-of-date, we may be unable to schedule your appointment.)
If you are unable to schedule an acceptable time, you may have to wait until the next period of assessment tests (see "UPCOMING ASSESSMENT TESTS"), or your department may contact the International Office - ESL Services office to see if an alternate solution is possible.

How do I change my appointment date/time?
Changes to appointments should be requested only when absolutely necessary, when changed circumstances do not permit you to attend your originally scheduled appointment.
To request an appointment change, send an e-mail message (e-mail address is in "Contact Information" section, below) requesting the change, and include your ID number. Please do not submit your request through the Appointment Request Form.
Changes will be made at our discretion. We cannot always accommodate your request: As the testing period draws nearer, we have less freedom to accommodate your request. We must also consider the efficient usage of our Raters.
Appointment changes will be considered only if the request is made more than 24 hours before your test time (not including weekends or holidays).

How do I cancel my appointment?
Send an e-mail informing us of the cancellation (include your ID number); see your Appointment Confirmation e-mail for details. Appointments should be cancelled more than 24 hours before the test time (not including weekends or holidays). If you are granted an exemption, it is your duty to contact us by e-mail to inform us of the cancellation.
If your test is not properly cancelled and you do not appear for your assessment, you will be considered a "No-Show". If this was your first assessment, your department will be billed, and you will have to pay the Reassessment Fee if you schedule an appointment in the future. If this was a reassessment, you will have to pay the No-Show Fee in addition to the Reassessment Fee if you schedule an appointment in the future.

What happens if I'm late or miss my appointment?
If you are running late for your appointment, call us at 477-9283 extension 145. We will try to adjust the processing of early-arriving examinees to informally swap times with you. However, we cannot guarantee that this will be possible.
If you miss your appointment, you will be considered a "No-Show" (see above).

Can you tell me if I'm required to take the assessment?
No. TIEP schedules and administers the assessments and is not involved with policy issues of this nature. Contact your department or the UT ITA office (phone: (512) 471-2482, e-mail: ).

How do I prepare for the assessment?
Visit the UT ITA website for information about how to prepare for the assessment.

What should I bring to the assessment?
Bring a photo ID (your UT ID, driver's license, or passport) and pens or pencils. Your e-mail confirmation notices will tell you if you need to pay any fees (for Reassessments and previous No-Show appointments).
You cannot bring cell phones, laptop computers, or personal items into the test rooms. While we do provide an area designated for storage of such items, it is not monitored, and the safekeeping of your items cannot be guaranteed. TIEP assumes no responsibility for loss or damage to items stored in our facilities.

Where are the assessments administered?
The TIEP ITA office is located on the 2nd floor of the building in Room 212, 1103 West 24th Street, 6 blocks west of the UT campus (see map). There is no parking at our building, so you should park on a side street. The WC campus shuttle bus stops at San Gabriel Street, within a block and a half of TIEP.
